Five tips for primary recruitment at Ohio University by Shane Bradshaw

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

Recruitment is happening and it’s happening fast. For me, the recruitment process is in full force as all of the planning is now done and the action can begin. Hi, my name is Shane Bradshaw and I am the Formal Recruitment Chair for Alpha Delta Pi, Xi chapter. When I chose to go Greek, I did not have anyone to take me under their wing and show me the ropes. Primary Recruitment can be scary and intimidating, but really, you are speed dating every sorority. Here are some tips and tricks to make the process go a little more smoothly.

Come prepared.

The August sun doesn’t hold back, even in Ohio. Walking to each sorority house can leave you feeling sweaty or tired. Bring a water bottle and a snack to eat in between rounds so you don’t feel fatigued. Have deodorant and perfume in your bag as well to help you feel fresh at each house. Don’t worry, you are not the only one who will get a little sweaty!

Wear the right shoes.

We all want to look our best during recruitment rounds but you may regret wearing your favorite platform shoe after the third house. Being comfortable outweighs looking perfect in this scenario, plus, we want to get to know your personality not your wardrobe. Remember, brick streets and high heels don’t mix!

Follow your heart.

When it is time to choose what Greek organization you want, listen to yourself and no one else. Don’t pick a sorority just because your best friend or roommate wants that one too. Have an open mind and pick a sorority that makes you feel at home. The best part about Greek Life at Ohio University is that we are a family and everyone is friends no matter your affiliation.

Remember to have fun.

Going through recruitment can be scary and nerve wracking, but remember that at the end of it you will find your best friends. Have fun meeting new people and learning about what makes each sorority special. The women on the other side are super excited to meet you.

Be yourself.

Sororities are not as superficial as they seem from movies or TV shows. We are simply looking for girls who are our future best friends. Being genuine and staying true to yourself will go a long way when it comes to developing relationships with women in Greek Life.
